Teenie Caroline Repolation was born on September 7th, 1702 on a warm summer night. She was born a slave. Her mother knew that one day, she would have to say goodbye to little Teenie. She held her tight for as long as she could until one day, when Teenie was six, her mother was going to be sold. Little Teenie didn't understand what was happening, she cried when they took her mother away from her. Now all she had left of her was a small piece of cloth her mother had given her the day she left. Teenie was a slave in the Derbyshire household, she helped the cooker pare meals. Sometimes, Mr. Derby would have her go work in the rice fields, which she hated doing.
When Teenie was 17 she was assigned to be the Derbyshire cook. She loved her job because she loved to cook. She cooked many things, soups, stews, meats and porage. She also baked breads, pies and other desserts. A few years later, she became pregnant with a slave named Eric. When their little boy was born, he was forced to be sold. Before he was sold, Teenie and Eric named their child Tidbit. Teenie took very good care of Tidbit. He was a very happy young boy. He helped Teenie cook and clean the pots and pans.
Time had flew by, Tidbit was four. Also, Teenie had been assigned two more people to help work in the kitchen. One indentured servant, Polly and one slave Myna. Myna and Polly quickly friended her and Tidbit. Teenie was often the one to give advice to the girls. Myna was in a very rough place in her life and wanted to die. Teenie comforted her and always put a smile back on her face. Polly helped by cleaning the dishes, picking berries and preparing meals. Teenie was a very wise woman.
Teenie was like a mother to everyone. When Tidbit was sad, she comforted him and cheered him up. When Myna got whipped for dropping a pie, she helped her feel better by giving her food and medicine. Even sometimes Polly was upset and would come to Teenie for advice. Teenie always kept a positive attitude until one day. The day that she knew had been coming for a long time, the day Tidbit was sold. Myna and Polly came to her one day and told her that Mrs. Derby had had her baby and they needed her right away. When they got to her, Teenie saw nothing but a wonderful little child. There was one problem though, the baby was not white, it was black. Teenie did what she thought was right to protect the baby, she gave it to another slave who had just had a baby. Mr. Derby found out and was furious. He sold Tidbit as a punishment for Teenie. Teenie did just as what her mother had done for her, gave him a little piece of cloth to remember her by. When Tidbit left, she was heartbroken but she knew that he would be safe with Myna and Polly.
The next day, Teenie heard news that Polly, Myna and Tidbit escaped from the doctor. She was so thrilled that her little boy would be living a free life. She wondered what direction they would be going in, she figured north. She hoped that one day, she could find Tidbit once again but, she knew that the chances of that were very slim. She also heard news that Mr. Derby had died, the cause was unknown. Clay Derby, Mr. Derby's son, went looking for Tidbit, Myna and Polly but never returned. Mrs. Derby set the slaves free and Teenie was on her way to find Tidbit. She headed the way she thought they went, north. She was wrong. Teenie didn't find Tidbit nor Myna or Polly. Instead she found slave hunters who took her back to their farm. Teenie's life ended when her new slave owner, shot her for not working hard enough.
