The road to Fort Mose was very difficult for some slaves. You had to travel quickly at night without much food or water and you had to hide during the day. If you got caught, you would be hurt very badly and punished. For Amari, the trip was exhausting. It took them about two months to get there, and Amari didn't know it yet, but she was pregnant. She felt sick all the time. For Tidbit, the trip was very hard. He was only four and he didn't have a lot of food or water to give him much energy. His little legs didn't want to walk as far as they needed to walk. Amari or Polly often carried him. The trip for Polly, was probably the easiest, I would say. She wasn't carrying a baby, nor was she four. She was still exhausted and starving when they got to Fort Mose, but she didn't go through as much pain on the way.
